The Postponed Grief

 

 

I wanted to hold back the chaos of tears,

plug the mother-shaped hole in my universe.

 

The laundry basket swollen

in the back seat of her car.

 

Hope penciled in the margins

of her cookbook.

 

The rug dented with the ghost

of her couch.
